In QuarkXPress, an anchored box is one which has been pasted inside a text box and behaves, in some measure, as if it were a character. It is often useful to achor picture boxes which contain images that are closely related to a particular section of text. In this tutorial, however, we will take advantage of this feature to use an image (imported into an anchored picture box) as a bullet point. We will use the example of a poster on quitting smoking and let's suppose we want to use a circular no-smoking graphic as our bullet.
QuarkXPress does not allow you to create anchored text or graphic boxes. Every box you create is initially independent of all other boxes but can later be converted to an anchored box.
Creating the box and importing the image
First, we click on the picture box tool and create the picture box: it can go anywhere we choose since it will not stay in this independent location.
Then we make the picture box a suitable size for our bullet. In this example, we set the box to 15mm square.
Next, with the picture box highlighted, we import the no-smoking image and choose Scale Picture to Box from the Style menu to fit it neatly to our 15mm box (without distorting the aspect ratio).
