As with our last example, we now need to create a paragraph style which uses our character style as a nested style.
Since the nested style will apply up to the em dash character (Type - Insert Special Character - Em Dash), we begin by copying the em dash character so that we can paste it later when creating the nested style.
Choose Window - Type and Tables - Paragraph Styles.
Choose New Paragraph Style from the Paragraph Styles palette menu.
Enter the style name.
Set the character and paragraph attributes that you wish the style to have.
Click on Drop Caps and nested-styles.
Click on the New nested-styles button.
Choose the character style created in step 1 from the first drop-down menu in the nested-styles section of the dialogue.
Choosing "Up To" (as opposed to "Through") from the middle drop-down menu.
Instead of choosing an option from the final drop-down menu, paste the em dash into the editable field, replacing any contents.
Click OK to confirm the creation of the new paragraph style.
