Step 1: Creating a character style for the bullet

The following screen shot shows the text to which our first nested style example will be applied.

The letter n at the start of each paragraph will have a character style applied to it which uses the Wingdings font. (The letter n, in Wingdings, will give us a square bullet.) Our first step is to create the character style which will generate this bullet.

1. Choose Window - Type and Tables - Character Styles.
2. Choose New Character Style from the Character Styles palette menu.
3. Enter the style name.
4. Click on Basic Character Formats on the left of the New Character Style dialogue.
5. Choose Wingdings from the Font Family drop-down menu.
6. Click on the Character Color category on the left of the New Character Style dialogue.
7. Set the font colour to green.
8. Click OK to confirm the creation of the new character style.
